Varicose Veins – Varicose veins are the result of weak or damaged valves in the veins. They appear rope-like and thick, twisting and turning beneath the skin. They are often painful.
Venous Stasis Leg Ulcers – Leg Ulcers are wounds that develop on the lower legs from untreated venous insufficiency. The back flow of blood in the veins due to incompetent valves leads to venous hypertension and eventually capillary damage and inflammation in the tissues. Skin changes commonly occur before the development of leg ulcers and may present as an eczema-like rash, or red, brown, or purple skin on the lower legs.
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) – A condition that occurs when the venous wall and/or valves in the leg veins are not working effectively, making it difficult for blood to return to the heart from the legs. CVI causes blood to “pool” or collect in these veins, and this pooling is called stasis.
